Rental Kimono Shop 👘 Which Plan Suits Me?

Rental Kimono Shop 👘 Which Plan Suits Me?

In Kyoto, where you can fully enjoy Japanese culture, there are many people who regularly wear kimono, either for work or as a hobby.
Also, there are many rental kimono shops in Kyoto.
For those who want to enjoy various kimono besides their own, or those who come for sightseeing and wish to take this opportunity to stroll around Kyoto in kimono,
it is possible to visit the shop empty-handed and go out in kimono♬.
Rental Kimono Okamoto welcomes everyone with a wide selection of kimono.
We also have plans that you can choose right after coming to the shop on the same day.
However, when you casually step in, sometimes you may wonder which plan to choose!
Therefore, this time we will explain one by one what kinds of plans are available at the shop, divided into women’s, men’s, and children’s.

Women’s Section

The women’s kimono we provide for rental are broadly divided into “Komon” and “Formal wear.”
“Komon” refers to casual kimono suitable for strolling.
As a visual feature, the entire kimono is patterned, and the designs do not have an up or down direction.
Because they can be worn casually, there is a wide variety of patterns and colors, and you can freely mix and match.
At Rental Kimono Okamoto, the largest number of kimono available for women are komon, so you can enjoy carefully choosing the one that suits your preference.
In contrast to “Komon,” we also have the “Formal wear” plans of Hakama and Furisode.
Originally, “formal wear” kimono are clothes worn at ceremonial or formal occasions,
but at Rental Kimono Okamoto, we also provide hakama and furisode for same-day strolling.
If you wish to enjoy Kyoto sightseeing in a more special kimono, please make use of the “Formal wear” plan.

Komon + Hanhaba-obi (Ribbon style)

Generally, rental kimono shops offer the “Komon” plan the most.
At Rental Kimono Okamoto, there are also 4 different plans where komon are tied with cute ribbon-style hanhaba obi. We will explain each below.
1. Set Plan
Consists of Komon kimono + Hanhaba obi + Bag.
These three items are already prepared as a set and hung on hangers.
It is perfect for those who don’t have much time and want to get dressed quickly to enjoy kimono longer,
or those who find it difficult to choose and would rather pick from already-prepared sets.
About 20 outfits are available at each store.

Sizes are M and F.
M size: For average body type, height approx. 150–160 cm
F size: For average body type, height approx. 155–170 cm

2. Select Plan
Like the Set Plan, it consists of Komon kimono + Hanhaba obi + Bag,
but in this plan, you can choose each of the three items yourself, giving you a wider range of choices.
About 150 outfits are prepared at each store.
Sizes are the same as the Set Plan (M and F).

3. Authentic Dressing Plan
This is the most popular plan at Rental Kimono Okamoto.
With over 600 kimono available, you can carefully choose one you are satisfied with.
You select 5 items: Komon kimono + Juban (undergarment) + Hanhaba obi + Obi accessory (item placed over obi) + Bag.
Unlike the Set and Select Plans, not only are there more kimono and obi,
but you can also enjoy coordination with obi accessories and cute, embroidered juban that match the kimono.

This Authentic Dressing Plan is also especially recommended for students.
Students enrolled in Japanese schools, aged 25 or younger, can receive a discount.
In that case, please present your student ID at the time of visit.

Sizes for this plan are S / M / F / W / TL / TLW.
S: Under 150 cm, slim or average build
M: 150–160 cm, average build
F: 155–170 cm, average build
W: 150–170 cm, fuller build
TL: 170 cm or taller, average build
TLW: 170 cm or taller, fuller build
In this way, it accommodates a variety of heights and body types. If you are worried about whether you can wear kimono because you are taller or smaller than your friends, please choose this Authentic Dressing Plan.

Special sizes (W size, TL size, TLW size examples)

Example of special size (two-piece kimono)

4. DECOCO Plan
Unlike other plans where only one accessory can be chosen,
this DECOCO plan is special because you can choose as many accessories such as lace items as you like and coordinate freely.

If you want to dress stylishly and uniquely, with a coordination that no one else has, please choose this plan.
Kimono can be selected from the Authentic Dressing Plan, the Select Plan, or kimono available only in the DECOCO plan (lace kimono).
You can enjoy choosing together with friends and have fun making your own coordination.

Nagoya Obi (Otaiko style)

All the previous plans use ribbon-style obi, but the Nagoya obi is characterized by its square-shaped back knot instead of a ribbon.
If you want a more mature and elegant outfit for Kyoto sightseeing, we recommend the Nagoya Obi Plan.

Nagoya obi were invented in Nagoya in the Taisho era and spread widely in the Showa era.
Before that, the longer fukuro-obi with a double otaiko knot was common,
but the slightly shorter Nagoya obi allowed a simplified single otaiko knot.

Kimono can be chosen from the Authentic Dressing Plan or the Select Plan,
but the obi will be a wide Nagoya obi instead of a hanhaba obi.
You also select an obiage and obijime, which is different from other plans.
Unlike the ribbon-style obi, the Nagoya obi creates an elegant, formal atmosphere,
allowing you to wear kimono in a chic and stylish way.

Hakama

Speaking of hakama, many think of “something worn at graduation ceremonies,”
but at Rental Kimono Okamoto, we offer many hakama that can be casually enjoyed.

Compared to kimono, hakama are shaped like skirts, making them very easy to walk in.
Strolling through Kyoto’s old streets in hakama, like female students of the Meiji era, will surely become an even more special memory.

You can choose your favorite kimono from over 600 komon.
Show a cute embroidered collar,
and for footwear, you may use our zori or bring your own stylish boots to match.

Furisode

The name “furisode” comes from “furu” (to swing the sleeves).
When dancing, swinging the long sleeves makes gestures appear more gorgeous and beautiful.
It is also said that the long sleeves of furisode carry the meaning of warding off evil.

Originally, furisode were considered the most formal attire for unmarried women.
At Rental Kimono Okamoto, we also have many furisode available for same-day wear.

Even if it is not for a coming-of-age ceremony or a wedding,
you can casually choose a furisode on the day and enjoy sightseeing in Kyoto more glamorously than anyone else 🥰.

In addition to classical patterns, we also have designs with Western flowers, geometric patterns, and modern motifs.
Please take advantage of our Same-Day Furisode Plan at Rental Kimono Okamoto and make your Kyoto sightseeing in kimono even more enjoyable!

Men’s Section

Many people think rental kimono shops are mainly for women,
but in fact, we also often welcome male customers coming together.
Male friends casually and cheerfully choose kimono together,
enjoying a completely different look from usual and going out for fun.
There are two men’s plans: Kigarashi (casual kimono style) and Hakama.

Kigarashi (Casual kimono style)

This is a basic style where men wear kimono with an obi.
Unless it is a hot season, you can also use a haori with no extra charge, which makes the look even cooler.

Unlike women’s kimono, they are not colorful with seasonal flowers,
but the combination of kimono, obi, and haori can greatly change the atmosphere,
so many customers enjoy choosing while thoughtfully considering.

Men’s Hakama

The Men’s Hakama Plan, where you wear hakama over kimono, is popular year-round.
Compared to kigarashi, it allows you to capture a sharper and more dignified look in photos.

There is also “Montsuki Hakama,” a more formal style with family crests on the kimono and haori,
which you can also try casually on the same day.

Children’s Section <Children’s Plan>

Traveling in Kyoto with family, changing into kimono together, and enjoying Kyoto’s streets in kimono—
this will surely become the best memory!
At Rental Kimono Okamoto, we also provide children’s kimono for small kids.
From 85 cm for babies, we have kimono for both girls and boys.
Seeing your child transformed into kimono with a big smile will be your greatest treasure.

We have now introduced the plans you can easily choose on the same day at Rental Kimono Okamoto.
How was it?
We have also included photos of customers who actually visited Rental Kimono Okamoto,
so please take them as reference!
Kyoto, the thousand-year capital, has about 2,000 shrines and temples,
with 17 shrines, temples, and castles registered as World Cultural Heritage sites.
Kyoto is a place that every Japanese person should visit at least once,
and for visitors from overseas wishing to experience Japanese culture, it is a must-see.
When sightseeing in Kyoto, please wear a beautiful kimono.
Your trip to Kyoto will become many times more enjoyable.
Rental Kimono Okamoto is waiting for your visit.
