“I want to walk around Kyoto in a kimono, but I don’t know how to choose one.”
“It’s my first time picking out a kimono myself... What if I make a mistake?”
If that sounds like you, don’t worry! In this guide, we’ll walk you through recommended kimono coordination ideas, especially with our most popular Authentic Kimono Styling Plan.
How to Find Your Perfect Kimono Look!
1. Choose Your Kimono

Take your time browsing through over 600 kimono available in our store.
From timeless classic patterns, natural tones, retro styles, and trendy designs to unique Liberty-style prints, textured weaves, nuanced colors, animal prints, and more—we have it all!
Many guests now even choose their kimono based on the color of their favorite character or idol.
Pick something that suits your mood or the occasion.
And if you’re unsure, feel free to ask our friendly staff—we’ll help you choose one that matches your preferences and vibe. ✨
We also carry a wide variety of Okamoto Original Kimonos, including the latest arrivals! Even returning guests can enjoy the excitement of finding something new.
2. Choose Your Obi (Kimono Belt)

Once you’ve chosen your kimono, it’s time to select your obi.
Our Authentic Plan includes over 300 types of obi!
Are you going for “cute,” “elegant,” “graceful,” or “pop”?
The look of the same kimono can change drastically depending on how you coordinate it with different obi and accessories (we’ll show you this later!).
While a safe rule is to choose an obi that matches one of the colors in the kimono, we encourage you to have fun and be bold.
There’s no right or wrong answer—follow your instincts and discover your MY BEST look.
We even have playful designs featuring cats, flamingos, pandas, and little birds!
3. Choose an Obi Accessory
Add a charming accent to your obi with an accessory—it makes the outfit even cuter and helps draw the eye upward, creating a flattering leg-lengthening effect!
Depending on the accessory, you can also create a more elegant and refined impression.
Using a color that contrasts with the obi is recommended, but you can also choose a matching tone for a soft, graceful “hannar” look.

4. Choose a Nagajuban (Kimono Undergarment)

The collar of the nagajuban peeks out from beneath the kimono and can completely change the impression.
For a pop-style outfit, a colorful base is a surefire win, while a white base works beautifully for a more refined, subtle look.
White collars with white embroidery or embroidery in the same color tone as the kimono are also lovely.
5. Choose Your Bag
Last but not least, choose a bag to complete your outfit!
While small bags are trendy right now, the most important thing is whether it fits your essentials: wallet, phone, mobile charger, etc.
We offer a wide variety—from popular woven basket bags and embroidered clasp bags to elegant Nishijin-ori pouches.
Don’t miss out on the classic Rikyu-style bags, a staple of kimono fashion.

How Different Can One Kimono Look? 5 Styles Using the Same Kimono!
We’ll now show you five coordination examples using a versatile kimono: Edo Komon.
1.With a Han-Haba Obi (Half-width Obi)
The most casual option.
The solid-color kimono paired with a cat-patterned obi gives it a quirky and unique charm.

2.With a Nagoya Obi for a Refined Look
A black dyed Nagoya obi gives it a calm and elegant, traditional vibe.

More gorgeous and beautiful with a woven Nagoya obi

3. With the DECOCO Plan: Lavish Lace Accessories
Switch up the look with lots of lace accessories!
Pair a classic kimono with lace items for maximum cuteness.
Lace kimonos are popular, but even non-lace ones can shine when styled with lace accessories.

More Styling Ideas
Retro Style with Antique Kimonos
Hugely popular with those who love unique looks! Add personal touches like black accessories, berets, or boots to create a chic, modern vintage style.

Soft-Toned & Natural Kimonos
Muted pastel-colored kimonos create a gentle, soft look.
They’re beautiful on their own or extra adorable when paired with lace accessories.
