Enjoy Arashiyama at a Leisurely Pace Until Nightfall

Enjoy Arashiyama at a Leisurely Pace Until Nightfall

Arashiyama is one of Kyoto's premier sightseeing destinations, offering numerous must-see spots, including the famous Togetsukyo Bridge.

Services You Can Enjoy Until Nighttime

At Rental Kimono Okamoto, you can explore all of Arashiyama in a kimono and return directly to your hotel without changing. You’ll receive your belongings at the hotel front desk, change clothes in your room, and simply return the kimono to the front desk by 9 a.m. the next morning. This convenient option is called the Hotel Return Plan.
Another option is the Next-Day Return Plan, where you return the kimono directly to the shop the following day.
Both services are designed so you can fully enjoy sightseeing in a kimono until late in the evening.

Evening Sightseeing Spots in Arashiyama

While iconic sites like Togetsukyo Bridge and Tenryu-ji Temple are widely known, Arashiyama offers an entirely different charm at night.
The Bamboo Grove Path is open 24 hours, and the Kimono Forest at Randen Arashiyama Station is even more enchanting when illuminated at night.

The Sagano Romantic Train is a sightseeing train that runs between Arashiyama and Hozukyo. During cherry blossom and autumn foliage seasons, it features special evening light-up rides, offering a different kind of beauty.

Temples such as Tenryu-ji and Hogonin also hold special night illumination events during limited seasonal periods, which are always very popular.

Arashiyama Ukai (Cormorant Fishing)

One of the top seasonal experiences is Arashiyama Ukai, a traditional cormorant fishing method dating back to the era of Emperor Seiwa (849–880), originally performed for the imperial court. In this captivating practice, skilled fishermen (ukai masters) use trained cormorants to catch sweetfish.
Held annually from early July to late September, the boats set off upstream of Togetsukyo Bridge after sunset. The flickering of torchlight on the river creates a mystical atmosphere.
The fishermen, dressed in traditional attire with kazaoreshi eboshi hats and koshimino waist straw skirts, skillfully handle their nets in a demonstration of expert technique—a truly memorable sight to witness up close.
